Healthcare through the eyes of a Real Chiropractor

by John Cafferty, D.C.

Traditional Chiropractic is a stand alone separate science which has absolutely no relationship whatsoever to the profession of medicine. Therefore, there is no such thing as chiropractic medicine. There are, however, doctors within the Chiropractic profession who practice something akin to medical chiropractic. Their approach to patient care is more along the lines of sickness care rather than true healthcare. These doctors are easy to recognize. They use mostly medical terminology when describing what type of services they offer to their patients. As an example, they prefer the term spinal manipulation rather than using the Traditional Chiropractic term "Vertebral Adjustment." They offer to treat conditions with different forms of therapy rather than eliminating nerve interference through the Chiropractic Art of correcting Vertebral Subluxations. You will seldom see children and infants under care in their clinics. Traditional Chiropractors refer to this concept within their profession as the "White Coat Syndrome" or, as some scientists describe it, Chiropractors who are MD Wannabees.

Real Chiropractic is a true, legitimate stand alone science founded by Dr. Daniel D. Palmer in 1895. It is a science based on a Vitalistic philosophy which has 33 principles or laws that serve as its foundation. A Traditional Chiropractor focuses on locating and correcting vertebral subluxations which cause nerve disturbances and a reduction in optimal human health. Because their practice is based of the location of nerve interference, they are referred to as a Subluxation Centered Chiropractors. Although they may be qualified to perform general diagnosis on each of his patients, they chooses instead to spend most of their time locating and correcting the cause of nerve interference rather than treating the symptoms cause by a health problem. A Subluxation Centered Chiropractor does not offer to treat any particular disease or condition. Than job he leaves to the doctor who resides in all his patients. Instead, he offers to assist this doctor who resides inside each patient by removing nerve disturbances, a major obstacle to healing within the human body. Although a Subluxation Centered Chiropractor's practice parameters may appear to be narrowly focused, the resultant healthcare outcome for his patients by correcting subluxations is very, very broad.

Since approximately 80% of subluxations express absolutely no symptoms whatsoever, Subluxation Centered Chiropractors must be well trained to locate vertebral subluxations. Therefore, many of these doctors use diagnostic equipment such as X-Rays, surface EMG, Thermal Scans and other Chiropractic test, examinations and devices to locate symptomatic as well as non-symptomatic subluxations. Medical doctors as well as untrained chiropractors who limit their practices to simple medical type orthopedic conditions, do not understand these diagnostic concepts nor are they qualified to render an opinion on the purpose for these type of test and examinations.

Traditional Chiropractors strongly advise the general public who are seeking real chiropractic care to be sure that the doctor they have chosen is following the time honored tenets handed down to the Chiropractic profession by Dr. Palmer, who first discovered and developed them.
